V.C. Andrews

The first of the Casteel series, this novel originally came out in 1985 and was to mark the beginning of a five part set of books. Looking into the goings on of a West Virginian family, it charts the progress of the daughter named Heaven as she overcomes the many hardships that have beset them all. Born to young teenage mother who died during her childbirth, she's now being sold along with her other siblings by her much hated father.

The best place to start is the Dollanganger series, the earliest of V.C. Andrews's multi-book series: it opens with Flowers in the Attic (1979) and runs to 11 books across 1979–2020, ending with The Shadows of Foxworth (2020). V.C. Andrews's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

V.C. Andrews has 108 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1979 and 2025. 99 of them belong to 28 named series — the largest being the Dollanganger series with 11 books — and 9 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. V.C. Andrews's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Dollanganger (1979–2020, 11 books), Audrina (1982–2016, 2 books) and Casteel (1985–1990, 5 books), plus 24 more.

This guide splits V.C. Andrews's 108 books into 28 named series and 9 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Dollanganger (11 books, 1979–2020); De Beers (6 books, 2001–2003); Casteel (5 books, 1985–1990); Cutler (5 books, 1990–1993); Hudson (5 books, 2000–2007), plus 23 further series.
