Sherwood Smith

Sherwood Smith is an American Science Fiction and Fantasy writer for both teens and adults and was born in 1951. She started writing as a child, at the age of six, with homemade taped together paper towel books. She moved on as she grew and never lost her passion for writing.

The best place to start is the Solar Queen series, the earliest of Sherwood Smith's multi-book series: it opens with Sargasso of Space (1955) and runs to 7 books across 1955–1998, ending with A Mind for Trade (1998). Sherwood Smith's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Sherwood Smith has 125 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1952 and 2026. 90 of them belong to 22 named series — the largest being the Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda series with 8 books — and 35 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Sherwood Smith's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Solar Queen (1955–1998, 7 books), Time Traders/Ross Murdock (1958–2002, 7 books) and Wren (1990–2010, 4 books), plus 19 more.

This guide splits Sherwood Smith's 125 books into 22 named series and 35 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda (8 books, 2003–2007); Time Traders/Ross Murdock (7 books, 1958–2002); Solar Queen (7 books, 1955–1998); Exordium (5 books, 1993–1996); The Norsunder War (5 books, 2022–2023), plus 17 further series.
