Robert Littell, American novelist and journalist, was born on the 8th January 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. In 1956 Littell graduated from the Alfred University. He joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years in which time he was the deck watch officer, communication’s officer, antisubmarine warfare officer and the ship’s navigator at times. In 1973 he received an award for the “Defection of A.J. Lewinter”. He received the Crime Writers’ Association’s “Gold Dagger Award”. In 2005 he took the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for “Legends”. “The Amateur” was originally written as a screenplay that he turned into a book in 1981.
