Robert Aickman

About Robert Aickman Seen by many as one of the pioneering voices in contemporary ghost stories, the British writer Robert Fordyce Aickman was a leading figure during his time. Unsurpassed, he was a gifted teller of ghost stories who really knew how to build a creeping sense of suspense and tension. Often writing about psychological terrors as well as physical manifestations, he really captured a sense of dread for the reader.

The best place to start is the Edward Gorey Collections series, the earliest of Robert Aickman's multi-book series: it opens with Hauntings (1968) and runs to 4 books across 1968–2025, ending with From Ted to Tom (2025).
