ⓘ About Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson was a science and ecology author born in Springdale, Pennsylvania. She was also an American biologist and conservationist. Carson started her career as an aquatic biologist in the U.S Bureau of Fisheries and later became a full-time writer in the 1950s. The novel got lots of criticism and fierce opposition from chemical companies urging a reversal in national pesticide policy, which later led to a ban on DDT and other pesticides. The novel also inspired a grassroots environmental movement which later led to the creation of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency. Rachel Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on June 9, 1980, after her death. Most organizations and institutions have celebrated her life and work even after her demise.
