R.A. Salvatore

Starting his 'Neverwinter' series, this was the first in a new collection set within the 'Forgotten Realms' universe. Continuing with the adventures of the elf renegade Drizzt Do'Urden, it further expands on the world, as he takes his experience on with him. Building upon the tone as well, it works to create a somewhat different direction to what came previously.

The best place to start is the Star Wars: Movie Novelizations series, the earliest of R.A. Salvatore's multi-book series: it opens with A New Hope: Star Wars: Episode IV (1976) and runs to 11 books across 1976–2020, ending with The Rise of Skywalker (2020). R.A. Salvatore's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

R.A. Salvatore has 168 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1976 and 2027. 156 of them belong to 33 named series — the largest being the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order series with 26 books — and 12 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. R.A. Salvatore's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Star Wars: Movie Novelizations (1976–2020, 11 books), Forgotten Realms: The Icewind Dale (1988–1990, 3 books) and Forgotten Realms: The Dark Elf Trilogy (1990–1991, 3 books), plus 29 more.

This guide splits R.A. Salvatore's 168 books into 33 named series and 12 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Star Wars: The New Jedi Order (26 books, 1999–2006); Star Wars: Movie Novelizations (11 books, 1976–2020); DemonWars Saga (9 books, 1996–2014); The Legend of Drizzt (9 books, 2011–2024); The Legend of Drizzt: The Graphic Novel (8 books, 2005–2009), plus 28 further series.
