Patricia Briggs

Steal the Dragon is the second book in the Sianim series (technically the third, if one were to take into account Wolfsbane, the sequel to Masques, released in 2010). Published in 1995, Patricia finds her stride in telling the story of Rialla, a former slave who, after fleeing Darran, the country of her slavery, becomes a spy for Sianim, a mercenary nation, with the aim of taking revenge against her former masters. When a lord in Darran determined to eliminate slavery finds his life threatened, it is up to Rialla to protect this new thinker from forces intent on overturning his will.

The best place to start is the Sianim series, the earliest of Patricia Briggs's multi-book series: it opens with Masques (1993) and runs to 4 books across 1993–2010, ending with Wolfsbane (2010). Patricia Briggs's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Patricia Briggs has 69 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1993 and 2027. 50 of them belong to 10 named series — the largest being the Mercedes Thompson series with 15 books — and 19 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Patricia Briggs's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Sianim (1993–2010, 4 books), Hurog (2002, 2 books) and Raven (2004–2005, 2 books), plus 7 more.

This guide splits Patricia Briggs's 69 books into 10 named series and 19 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Mercedes Thompson (15 books, 2005–2024); Alpha and Omega (9 books, 2007–2027); Alpha and Omega: Cry Wolf Graphic Novels (8 books, 2012–2014); Mercedes Thompson Graphic Novels (4 books, 2009–2015); Sianim (4 books, 1993–2010), plus 5 further series.
