Michael McDowell was a successful American published author. He is known for being a prolific horror writer. He was born in Enterprise, Alabama on June 1, 1950. He attended public schools in southern Alabama up until 1968. He then attended Harvard, graduating with his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in English. In 1978, he earned a Ph.D. in English and American literature from Brandeis. His first book to be sold and his seventh novel to be written in The Amulet. It was released in 1979 and would be followed by many other works of fiction that were written either using his own name or pen names such as Axel Young, Nathan Aldyne, Mike McCray, and Preston Macadam. Notable books that he has written include The Elementals, a southern Gothic horror novel, as well as the Blackwater series
