Michael Bond

Michael Bond is a British children fiction author born in 1926. He is best known for his series of children fiction stories called Paddington Bear, and he published his debut novel in 1958. The author was raised in a reading environment, and that might have inspired him to become a writer.

The best place to start is the Paddington Bear series, the earliest of Michael Bond's multi-book series: it opens with A Bear Called Paddington (1938) and runs to 58 books across 1938–2025, ending with Paddington’s Trick or Treat (2025). Michael Bond's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Michael Bond has 226 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1938 and 2026. 212 of them belong to 8 named series — the largest being the Paddington Bear Picture series with 100 books — and 14 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Michael Bond's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Paddington Bear (1938–2025, 58 books), Paddington Bear Picture (1965–2026, 100 books) and Mouse Called Thursday (1966–1973, 4 books), plus 5 more.

This guide splits Michael Bond's 226 books into 8 named series and 14 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Paddington Bear Picture (100 books, 1965–2026); Paddington Bear (58 books, 1938–2025); Olga Da Polga (19 books, 1972–2015); Monsieur Pamplemousse (18 books, 1983–2014); Parsley (6 books, 1969–1972), plus 3 further series.
