Mariama J. Lockington is a published American author, educator, and adoptee. The author has been in the practice of telling her own stories ever since she was young in second grade, making her own unique books. That was back when she wore short overalls and flower leggings to school on a daily basis. Her book For Black Girls Like Me debuted in 2019. It was received very well, earning itself several five star reviews and was featured as a Best Kids’ Book of 2019 by the Today Show. She would follow this book up with another book aimed for middle school readers, In the Key of Us. The book was featured in the New York Times and won a Stonewall Honor Award.
