When World War II broke out she joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service where she worked as a driver. After the war she made history by working in the Christ Church library in Oxford, the first woman to ever do so. Margaret Yorke died in 2012 aged 88, having made a name for herself as a successful crime fiction author.
