Malinda Lo

Malinda Lo is an American novelist best known for writing Young Adult novels the most popular of which were her first two “Huntress” and “Ash”. Lo was born in China but her parents immigrated to the United States when she was three years old. She went to Wellesley College before proceeding to Harvard, where she graduated with a Regional Studies master’s degree.

The best place to start is the Ash series, the earliest of Malinda Lo's multi-book series: it opens with Ash (2009) and runs to 3 books across 2009–2011, ending with Huntress (2011). Malinda Lo's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Malinda Lo has 83 books catalogued in this guide, published between 2009 and 2022. 69 of them belong to 5 named series — the largest being the Tremontaine series with 53 books — and 14 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Malinda Lo's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Ash (2009–2011, 3 books), Adaptation (2012–2013, 3 books) and Tremontaine (2015–2018, 53 books), plus 1 more.

This guide splits Malinda Lo's 83 books into 5 named series and 14 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Tremontaine (53 books, 2015–2018); Tremontaine Collection (4 books, 2016–2018); Adaptation (3 books, 2012–2013); Ash (3 books, 2009–2011); Heiresses of Russ (6 books, 2011–2016).
