Lemony Snicket

Lemony Snicket is a pseudonym used by the well known American author Daniel Handler. He is famous for writing a number of successful books based on the Children's biographies as well as the mystery and thriller genres. Snicket also serves as the narrator in many of his novels and plays an important part as a character with the same name.

The best place to start is the A Series Of Unfortunate Events series, the earliest of Lemony Snicket's multi-book series: it opens with The Bad Beginning (1999) and runs to 13 books across 1999–2006, ending with The End (2006). Lemony Snicket's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Lemony Snicket has 49 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1999 and 2021. 31 of them belong to 5 named series — the largest being the A Series Of Unfortunate Events series with 13 books — and 18 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Lemony Snicket's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are A Series Of Unfortunate Events (1999–2006, 13 books), A Series Of Unfortunate Events Companion (2002–2007, 6 books) and Daniel Handler Picture (2007–2017, 7 books), plus 2 more.

This guide splits Lemony Snicket's 49 books into 5 named series and 18 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: A Series Of Unfortunate Events (13 books, 1999–2006); Daniel Handler Picture (7 books, 2007–2017); A Series Of Unfortunate Events Companion (6 books, 2002–2007); All the Wrong Questions (4 books, 2012–2015); All The Wrong Questions Collections (1 book, 2014).
