Together they grew up in the North Carolina mountains. This would go on to become a setting for quite a few of his works. John Ehle served during the second world war. When he returned, he attended university at U.N.C. at Chapel Hill. He received his bachelors and masters degree there. That was also the setting for his meeting with Paul Green, the playwright. He would go on to start writing himself, composing plays for a radio series called American Adventure. This author would teach for a decade at university before leaving to join the staff of Terry Sanford, the governor of North Carolina.
