Jenny Erpenbeck is a German writer and director. She was born March 12, 1967 in East Berlin. She is the daughter of John Erpenbeck, a writer, philosopher, and a physicist, and of Doris Kilias, an Arabic translator. Her grandparents are Fritz Erpenbeck and Hedda Zinner, both authors. While she was living in the city of Berlin, she attended Advanced High School, graduating from the school in 1985. After that, Jenny went on to take on a two year apprenticeship as a book binder which she completed. She then went on to work at various theaters in the capacity of a props and a wardrobe supervisor. She would then study theater from 1988 to 1990 at the Humboldt University of Berlin. She changed her studies in 1990 to Music Theater Director at the Hanns Eisler Music Conservatory. Rising to prominence with the Publication Order of Standalone Novels series, Jenny Erpenbeck has since expanded their repertoire to include numerous successful works across various genres.
