Jean Rabe

Jean Rabe was only 12 years old when she was first published and she has never stopped since. The author went to Northern Illinois University where she studied journalism before she started working as a news reporter. She would eventually work for Scripps Howard and would ultimately become the manager of their bureau in Western Kentucky.

The best place to start is The Magic series, the earliest of Jean Rabe's multi-book series: it opens with Steel Magic (1965) and runs to 7 books across 1965–2009, ending with Dragon Mage (2009). Jean Rabe's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Jean Rabe has 207 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1965 and 2024. 159 of them belong to 19 named series — the largest being the Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest series with 55 books — and 48 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Jean Rabe's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are The Magic (1965–2009, 7 books), Quag Keep (1978–2006, 2 books) and Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest (1982–2019, 55 books), plus 15 more.

This guide splits Jean Rabe's 207 books into 19 named series and 48 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest (55 books, 1982–2019); Blue Kingdoms (18 books, 2007–2015); Forgotten Realms: The Harpers (14 books, 1991–1998); Dragonlance Universe (11 books, 1987–2011); The Magic (7 books, 1965–2009), plus 14 further series.
