He was born in London in the year 1941, and worked as an aeronautical engineer who specialized in digital systems and electronics. Hogan worked in sales during the sixties, going around Europe for Honeywell as a sales engineer. In the seventies he joined Digital Equipment Corporation’s Laboratory Data Processing Group. He relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1977 to manage its sales training program. Hogan published his first novel, called “Inherit the Stars”, in the year 1979 to help him win an office bet.
