Grace Lin

Amongst the many children’s writers and illustrators of the modern era, there is no doubt that Grace Lin has an important role to play. Born in the year 1974, Lin is a well known and highly respected writer whose specific area of focus is young children. Her parents were basically immigrants who settled in The US.

The best place to start is the Pacy series, the earliest of Grace Lin's multi-book series: it opens with The Year of the Dog (2005) and runs to 3 books across 2005–2012, ending with Dumpling Days (2012). Grace Lin's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Grace Lin has 78 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1999 and 2025. 52 of them belong to 4 named series — the largest being the Storytelling Math series with 14 books — and 26 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Grace Lin's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Pacy (2005–2012, 3 books), Ling & Ting (2010–2015, 4 books) and Storytelling Math (2020–2023, 14 books).

This guide splits Grace Lin's 78 books into 4 named series and 26 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Storytelling Math (14 books, 2020–2023); Ling & Ting (4 books, 2010–2015); Pacy (3 books, 2005–2012); She Persisted (31 books, 2017–2023).
