Goscinny

Rene Goscinny was a French comics writer and editor best known for the Asterix comic series that he produced together with Albert Uderzo. Goscinny was born in Paris to Polish Jewish immigrants in 1926, the second born child of Stanislaw Goscinny, and Bereśniak-Gościnna. His parents moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina when Goscinny was aged two, as his father a chemical engineer, had been called up to take a lucrative post there.

The best place to start is the Astérix series, the earliest of Goscinny's multi-book series: it opens with Asterix the Gaul (1959) and runs to 41 books across 1959–2009, ending with Asterix & Obelix's Birthday (2009). Goscinny's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Goscinny has 108 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1959 and 2011. 107 of them belong to 7 named series — the largest being the Astérix series with 41 books — and 1 is a standalone title, collection or anthology.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Goscinny's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Astérix (1959–2009, 41 books), Nicholas (1959–1978, 7 books) and Iznogoud (1967–2011, 13 books), plus 4 more.

This guide splits Goscinny's 108 books into 7 named series and 1 title that stands alone or appear only in collections: Astérix (41 books, 1959–2009); Lucky Luke (31 books, 1970–2011); Iznogoud (13 books, 1967–2011); Twelve Tasks of Asterix (9 books, 1978); Nicholas (7 books, 1959–1978), plus 2 further series.
