Gary McCarthy

Gary McCarthy is an American author who writes historical novels and westerns. The author has millions of books in print and he continues to write to this day. He is always looking for new stories to write about the American West and enjoys researching new ones the most.

The best place to start is the Double D Western series, the earliest of Gary McCarthy's multi-book series: it opens with Bitter Grass (1967) and runs to 12 books across 1967–2008, ending with Farewell to Texas (2008). Gary McCarthy's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared.
