Emily Rodda is the pseudonym of Jennifer Rowe who writes children’s fiction, young adult fantasy, and general fantasy fiction novels. The author grew up on the North Shore of Sydney and went to the University of Sydney from where she graduated with an English Literature master’s degree in 1973. Growing up, she was quite the reader and hence it was not surprising that she gravitated towards publishing. She started out working for Angus & Robertson as an editor before she finally became a publisher. She would, later on, become Australian Women’s Weekly’s editor-in-chief. “Something Special” which was her debut novel came out in 1984 and has a very interesting origin story. Rodda began writing it as a bedtime story for her kid but expanded it since the child loved it so much. Rising to prominence with the Publication Order of Deltora Quest Books series, Emily Rodda has since expanded their repertoire to include numerous successful works across various genres.
