Dana Mentink

Suspense novels have been a staple in libraries for decades. The adventure and whodunit books of the past and future are relative to the society we live in today. Life is full of intensity and suspense is in every corner of life.

The best place to start is the Finny's NoseMystery series, the earliest of Dana Mentink's multi-book series: it opens with Trouble Up Finny's Nose (2008) and runs to 3 books across 2008–2009, ending with Treasure Under Finny's Nose (2009). Dana Mentink's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Dana Mentink has 132 books catalogued in this guide, published between 2006 and 2026. 114 of them belong to 24 named series — the largest being the Military K-9 Unit series with 10 books — and 18 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Dana Mentink's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Finny's NoseMystery (2008–2009, 3 books), South Dakota Badlands (2010–2012, 3 books) and Treasure Seekers (2012–2013, 2 books), plus 18 more.

This guide splits Dana Mentink's 132 books into 24 named series and 18 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Military K-9 Unit (10 books, 2018); Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit (9 books, 2023); True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn (8 books, 2020); Desert Justice (6 books, 2021–2023); Security Hounds Investigations (6 books, 2024–2025), plus 19 further series.
