She met her husband John (whom she has been married to for over thirty years) in college, where she majored in English Education. She taught high schoolers for many years before she stayed home full-time to start their family. It took John and Carole quite some time to build their family. They had been married ten years when Emma, their first daughter, was born on Christmas Eve. Their younger three kids (Mira, Johnny, and Dara) were adopted from Kazakhstan. They live just outside of Washington, DC. It is a great place, they find, for their multicultural family. The school system there has students coming from more than 150 countries, and their church has members from more than twenty.
