Published in 1941, What Makes Sammy Run? is a novel inspired by the life of Budd Schulberg’s father, early Hollywood mogul B. P. Schulberg. The story portrays a rags-to-riches narrative, chronicling the ascent and downfall of Sammy Glick, a Jewish young man born and raised in New York’s Lower East Side.
