Brandon Sanderson

There is no doubt whatsoever that Brandon Sanderson is one of the best writers in epic fantasy. The good thing with him is that he tirelessly continues to write. The advantage with this is that readers can follow both the old and the new works of the author.

The best place to start is The Wheel of Time series, the earliest of Brandon Sanderson's multi-book series: it opens with The Eye of the World (1990) and runs to 18 books across 1990–2012, ending with A Memory of Light (2012). Brandon Sanderson's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Brandon Sanderson has 233 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1985 and 2026. 192 of them belong to 29 named series — the largest being the Cosmere Universe series with 26 books — and 41 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Brandon Sanderson's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are The Wheel of Time (1990–2012, 18 books), Magic: The Gathering (1994–2023, 17 books) and Cosmere Universe (1998–2025, 26 books), plus 24 more.
