Beverly Cleary

Beverly Cleary was one of the mostwell known American authors of the children and young adult fiction books. She was considered to be one of the most successful writers of America as she had sold around 91 million printed copies of her novels, all over the world, since the publication of her debut novel in the year 1950. Beverly Cleary sadly passed on March 25th, 2021.

The best place to start is the Henry Huggins series, the earliest of Beverly Cleary's multi-book series: it opens with Henry Huggins (1950) and runs to 6 books across 1950–1964, ending with Ribsy (1964). Beverly Cleary's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Beverly Cleary has 146 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1950 and 2013. 121 of them belong to 8 named series — the largest being the Ramona Quimby series with 8 books — and 25 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Beverly Cleary's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Henry Huggins (1950–1964, 6 books), Ellen & Otis (1951–1953, 2 books) and Ramona Quimby (1955–1999, 8 books), plus 4 more.

This guide splits Beverly Cleary's 146 books into 8 named series and 25 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Ramona Quimby (8 books, 1955–1999); Henry Huggins (6 books, 1950–1964); First Love (4 books, 1956–1963); Ralph S. Mouse (3 books, 1965–1982); Ellen & Otis (2 books, 1951–1953), plus 3 further series.
