Even though he makes his home in Virginia, his heart has always been in Philadelphia where he spent much of his childhood. Growing up, he was a lover of short stories even as he struggled with words. During that time, he was embarrassed and ashamed of the fact that he was dyslexic. He used to sit in the back row of his classroom and quietly moved his lips as the whole class read aloud. But soon his classmates noticed that he could not read, which is perhaps why he grew to like science fiction so much. With genre fiction, he could enjoy the crazy-looking flashes of light and glyphs on a screen that told stories in images he could understand.
