Andrew Wareham

“Long Way Place” is the first novel in the “Cannibal Country” series and was released in the year 2015. During the early part of the 1900s, Ned Hawkins, a gutter rat, looks to rise from the grinding poverty of one English slum, however has to flee the country. He winds up in Papua, which is a dangerous place where cannibals and cannibalism isn’t too far away.

The best place to start is the A Poor Man at the Gates series, the earliest of Andrew Wareham's multi-book series: it opens with The Privateersman (2013) and runs to 14 books across 2013–2023, ending with A Victorian Empire (2023). Andrew Wareham's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Andrew Wareham has 127 books catalogued in this guide, published between 2013 and 2026. 124 of them belong to 22 named series — the largest being the Call of the Sea series with 16 books — and 3 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared.
