Alejandro Zambra is a Chilean novelist, poet, and short story writer. He was born on September 24, 1975 in Santiago, Chile. He has found recognition for his writing throughout his career. In 2007, he was selected as one of the best Latin American writers under age 39 as a ‘Bogotá39’. Zambra was also selected as one of the best Spanish-language authors under the age of 35 by Granta. The author grew up in Chile during the time that Augusto Pinochet was dictator. In an interview done in a magazine with a friend from the Master’s program, the author talked about his thoughts regarding growing up in Chile during the seventies and eighties, a time of dictatorship, and delved into after the end of power how his life changed.
