Alan Burt Akers

Prolific science fiction and fantasy author Kenneth Bulmer used the pen name “Alan Burt Akers” to write the “Dray Prescot” series. Some of the books were published as “by Dray Prescot, told by Alan Burt Akers” in an attempt to support the illusion the stories were really being told and written by the main character, Prescot. This is from a sub-genre of fantasy known as “Sword and Planet”, it sees a Earthling transported to other planets and swash buckles against other human and non human type creatures.

The best place to start is the Dray Prescot series, the earliest of Alan Burt Akers's multi-book series: it opens with Transit to Scorpio (1972) and runs to 52 books across 1972–2014, ending with Turmoil on Kregen (2014).

Alan Burt Akers has 55 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1972 and 2014. Every one of them sits in one of 3 named series — the largest being the Dray Prescot series with 52 books.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Alan Burt Akers's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Dray Prescot (1972–2014, 52 books), Balintol Cycle (1996–2008, 2 books) and Phantom cycle (2014, 1 book).

This guide splits Alan Burt Akers's 55 books into 3 named series, with no standalone titles: Dray Prescot (52 books, 1972–2014); Balintol Cycle (2 books, 1996–2008); Phantom cycle (1 book, 2014).
