Al Sarrantonio

About Al Sarrantonio An American author of science-fiction, Al Sarrantonio is enormously well regarded for his unique brand of genre fiction. Really pushing at the boundaries of what the format can fully achieve, he's a gifted novelist when it comes to creating new and interesting stories. Writing in a style that's very much his own, he has a way with words that's quite unlike anyone else currently working within his field.

The best place to start is the Five Worlds Saga series, the earliest of Al Sarrantonio's multi-book series: it opens with Exile (1996) and runs to 3 books across 1996–1998, ending with Return (1998). Al Sarrantonio's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Al Sarrantonio has 72 books catalogued in this guide, published between 1980 and 2015. 16 of them belong to 6 named series — the largest being the Orangefield Cycle series with 4 books — and 56 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Al Sarrantonio's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Jack Paine Mysteries (1989–1993, 2 books), Novel of the West (1991–1993, 2 books) and Five Worlds Saga (1996–1998, 3 books), plus 3 more.

This guide splits Al Sarrantonio's 72 books into 6 named series and 56 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Orangefield Cycle (4 books, 2004–2015); Five Worlds Saga (3 books, 1996–1998); Masters of Mars (3 books, 2004–2006); Jack Paine Mysteries (2 books, 1989–1993); Novel of the West (2 books, 1991–1993), plus 1 further series.
