Abi Elphinstone

She loved stories (writing them, reading them, or listening to them), and it was back then that she found worlds behind wardrobes, teachers named Trunchbull, and shape shifting demons. Abi got through school, despite being branded as ‘prone to spasmodic outbursts of silliness’ and ‘unteachable’ by her headteacher. After getting an English degree at Bristol University and several years working as an English teacher in London, Africa, and Berkshire, she’s now returned to building dens and hiding in treehouses, sometimes in real life, but mainly in her books.

The best place to start is the Dreamsnatcher series, the earliest of Abi Elphinstone's multi-book series: it opens with The Dreamsnatcher (2015) and runs to 3 books across 2015–2017, ending with The Night Spinner (2017). Abi Elphinstone's other series stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Abi Elphinstone has 15 books catalogued in this guide, published between 2015 and 2025. 9 of them belong to 3 named series — the largest being the Dreamsnatcher series with 3 books — and 6 are standalone titles, collections or anthologies.

Read each series in publication order — the numbered entries in each series follow the year each book first appeared. Abi Elphinstone's series do not depend on one another, so they can be started in any order; by start date they are Dreamsnatcher (2015–2017, 3 books), The Unmapped Chronicles (2020–2021, 3 books) and Ember Spark (2024–2025, 3 books).

This guide splits Abi Elphinstone's 15 books into 3 named series and 6 titles that stand alone or appear only in collections: Dreamsnatcher (3 books, 2015–2017); Ember Spark (3 books, 2024–2025); The Unmapped Chronicles (3 books, 2020–2021).
